Firefighters Save Businesses in South LA Fire

LOS ANGELES-

Thick smoke and flames engulfed a row of commercial units, but the swift response of firefighters successfully saved two business from destruction.

At 4:36AM on September 20, 2024 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2200 block of S Central Ave in South Los Angeles.

Firefighters arrived to find a one-story row of commercial buildings with heavy smoke showing from two units. Crews initiated an offensive fire attack, working to contain and extinguish the fire before it could extend to the adjoining units.

85 firefighters, working under the command of Assistant Chief Douglas Lewis, extinguished the fire in 42 minutes with no injuries reported.  Crews succeeded in defending two businesses adjoining the fire units and a single-family dwelling adjacent to the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
