Update Technical Rescue; INC#1492; 10:08PM; 1349 S Flower St; https://bit.ly/3zfySXW; #DowntownLA; Firefighters used specialized cameras to pinpoint the location of the man within the 4-story chimney, prior to breaching the wall from inside the apartment building. LAFD Urban Search and Rescue crews were able to break through into the vertical space using electric-powered tools (to avoid carbon monoxide build up inside the building where the breach operation took place) and entered the shaft below the man and slide him down to safety. The approximately 25-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with moderate injures. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#1416; 07:09PM; 11159 W La Maida St; https://bit.ly/45tLwi5; #NorthHollywood; Firefighters responded to a 5,518 sq-ft two-story single-family home with smoke showing. Firefighters made entry to the living space and found the home to be unoccupied and no visible fire. Upon further inspection, crews discovered fire in the attic. Before applying water above, crews performed salvage operations (gathering furniture and belongings together to cover with large tarps/plastic) to protect from damage while extinguishing the fire above. Ultimately, it took 30 firefighters 28 minutes (7:37pm) to respond, complete salvage, and access/extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN #CahuengaFire Brush Fire; INC#0849; 03:10PM; 2699 N Cahuenga Bl; https://bit.ly/3VMclet; #HollywoodHills; Over one hundred LAFD firefighters (along with four LA County FD hand crews) stopped all forward progress of the fire at approximately 3 acres (1 hour 52 minutes from the time of alarm). Fire Helicopters made strategic water drops on the head of the fire, while ground crews developed progressive hose lays around both flanks of the fire. Crews have now established a containment perimeter, and will remain on scene into the evening to cool down hot spots within the burn footprint and improve containment lines. No reported injuries. No structures damaged. Crews continue to impede the progress of the fire, by ground and air. LA County FD There are currently no structures threatened and no evacuation orders. Firefighters on the ground are performing a second land-based rope rescue to recover the deceased individual (adult female).
