Update #PenroseFire Major Emergency Fire; INC#1522; 08:23PM; 11200 W Penrose St; https://bit.ly/3VeIKar; #SunValley; With 111 LAFD Firefighters assigned by ground and air, this incident, known as the "Penrose Fire". has escalated to Major Emergency status. The wind-driven fire involving grass, trees and other vegetation had already extended into a 75' x 300' one-story metal clad building on LAFD arrival. LAFD has asked CHP to close both north and southbound lanes of the Golden State (I-5) Freeway between the Hollywood (SR170) Freeway and Sunland Boulevard until LAFD operations are complete, unknown duration. Motorists, expect congestion and delay, avoid the immediate area and consider an alternate route. Detours are available. Monitor traffic reports on news radio. First arriving firefighters took just 17 minutes (9:08 PM) to fully extinguish flames, preventing fire from extending beyond the 4 involved units. No injury. Firefighters made entry to attack the remaining fire which was out of reach and fully extinguished the fire in 45 mins. They defended the exposed 3 story building from damage. A search of the building was clear and no injuries were reported.
