Though an early evaluation of both responders attire by LAFD HazMat experts detected the presence of cocaine, there is currently no information regarding other contaminants being involved. No other injuries among workers or bystanders have been reported, and no escalating or on-site hazard was identified. Update Hazardous Materials 10/10/2021 INC#1108

Update Hazardous Materials; INC#1108; 05:35PM; 617 W 7th St; https://bit.ly/3ltkvWV; Downtown; One LAPD Officer and one LAFD Firefighter suddenly became ill after contacting a male civilian who was or had been in the custody of a security officer at the retail pharmacy. Both responders, as well as the civilian (3 patients total) remain in fair condition with unspecified complaints. No other injuries among workers or bystanders was reported, and no escalating or off-site hazard has been identified. The LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad has been redirected to an area outside the receiving hospital, where all three patients have received a decontamination shower. Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire 09/12/2021 INC#0408

Update Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0408; 07:50AM; 404 S Figueroa St; https://bit.ly/3lk0y3o; Downtown; The fully extinguished fire appears to have been largely in or near a utility or service area (trash receptacle, ice machine, etc.) on a the 22nd floor of the 33 story Westin Bonaventure Hotel. Three adult patrons have been examined by LAFD Paramedics in the hotel lobby for minor injuries and medical concerns following the earlier evacuation, and two of them will be taken to an area hospital by LAFD ambulance. The third person declined further care. Firefighters continue to assist staff in rehousing patrons and resolving residual and lessening smoke on Floors 22-26 as well as localized water removal on Floors 21 and 22. LAFD Public Information Officer Captain Erik Scott will be on scene shortly to assist media. Update Controlled Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0408; 07:20AM; 404 S Figueroa St; https://bit.ly/3lk0y3o; Downtown; The fire in or near one room on the 22nd floor of the *33* story Westin Bonaventure Hotel has been controlled, with no injury reported. The (unknown number) of staff and patrons who calmly and safely evacuated the iconic building, are now being provided hotel access, with patrons below the 22nd floor being allowed to return to guest accommodations. Many of the 113 firefighters assigned to this incident are now working closely with hotel staff to manage residual smoke on Floors 22-26 and localized water removal on Floors 21 and 22. Knockdown - Structure Fire; INC#1420; 07:17PM; 566 S San Pedro St; https://bit.ly/38WmPPa; Downtown; First arriving 40 LAFD Firefighters took just 14 minutes to access, confine and extinguish fire in one 3rd floor room at The Weingart Center, a 10 story residential high-rise providing transitional services to the homeless. Functional fire sprinklers held flames within the burning unit, as the fire alarm system alerted occupants of the 133,882 square-foot building in time to safely evacuate without injury. No injury reported.
