Vacant Hotel Fire in Hollywood
Firefighters battled an early morning fire in Hollywood, preventing the blaze from spreading throughout a large, old hotel.
At 5:52AM on October 23, 2023 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 1400 block of N New Hampshire Ave for a reported structure fire.
The first arriving company reported finding fire showing from the 2nd floor of, what initially appeared to be, a two-story apartment building. As crews initiated fire attack, they encountered extensive forcible entry challenges on the vacant, boarded structure.
Truck companies ascended ladders to the roof and performed vertical ventilation to allow the hot gases and smoke to escape, creating a more tenable environment for the interior fire attack.
As fire attack continued to cut through the boarded windows and doors to reach the fire, the type of structure was determined to be a large, two story, C shaped vacant hotel.
Once firefighters reached the seat of the fire, they were able to make quick progress. Over 120 firefighters assigned to this Major Emergency structure fire, under the command of Assistant Chief Luis Aldana fully extinguished the fire in one hour with no injuries reported.
LAFD Arson section responded for the investigation, per protocol for an incident of this size.
