Los Angeles Fire Commission Recognizes Cadet Post Advisors
LOS ANGELES - Members of the Los Angeles Fire Department who serve as Cadet Post Advisors were recognized today by the Board of Fire Commissioners. Our Cadet Program serves as a top tier youth program thanks to the countless hours and dedication by these members (with no additional compensation).
These individuals are sworn members of the LAFD, making a difference in the lives of those they serve on incidents day-to-day, yet they want to do more. When asked, most will tell you that they serve as Post Advisors so that they can make a difference in the lives of the youths of Los Angeles who are interested in the fire service.
The LAFD currently has 15 cadet posts throughout the four geographic bureaus, with a Lead Post Advisor and several supporting Assistant Advisors at each post. In addition to their daily work responsibilities, these dedicated members also sacrifice time in their off hours to share their experience and wisdom with the next generation of firefighters for the City of Los Angeles. These Post Advisors not only teach about the fire service, but the teach about life skills and give assistance with college applications. These members are mentors, parental figures, and confidants in the cadets' lives. They are role models that lead by example for these youths to look up to and follow.
Today's recognition cannot even begin to truly express the gratitude we have for our members who pour into the lives of the future of this department, our communities, and our city. The Cadet Program is one of the four youth programs currently offered by the LAFD that aim to increase our sustainability (in addition to the High School Magnet Program, the Youth F.I.R.E. Academy, and Girls Camp), and at the same time increase community resiliency.
