LAFD Fire Commission Recognizes Two of Their Own For Marine Corps Achievement
The Los Angeles City Fire Commission recognized LAFD Firefighter/Paramedic Nicholas Darcy and Firefighter David Arellano who have both been promoted to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, through an act of Congress.
Master Gunnery Sergeant is the highest enlisted rank available to Marines who have chosen to follow a career track as a technical specialist in the United States Marine Corps. Master Gunnery Sergeants serve as technical experts and offer leadership in their field to large Marine units.
Less than 1% of Marines will ever achieve the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. In the entire Marine Corps, FF/PM Darcy is 1 of only 7 Infantry Master Gunnery Sergeants, and David Arellano is the only Master Gunnery Sergeant in his field.
There are less than 50 Master Gunnery Sergeants in the Marine Corps and the LAFD is proud to have two of them working here in the City of Angels. This high achievement warranted the Los Angeles City Fire Commission to recognize these two individuals on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
