Home Explosion Critically Injures One Patient, Traps Dog
PACOIMA - At 9:01AM on March 20, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire and explosion in the 13000 block of West Remington Street in Pacoima.
Firefighters arrived to find a partially-collapsed single family dwelling with light smoke showing. A victim (24M) with severe burns and open wounds stated he had been alone with pets inside the home at the time of the explosion; he was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Fire risk in the structure was quickly mitigated, and first responders focused on ensuring life safety around the collapse. A family member arrived on scene and stated four dogs had been in the home -- a search for the animals was initiated, and three were quickly rescued. The last dog was trapped by a leash inside the footprint of the building and patiently waited for rescue -- specialized crews assessed structural integrity before authorizing personnel to affect this final rescue.
