Four LAFD Firefighters Injured During Fire in Silver Lake

LOS ANGELES – October 7, 2026 – Four Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were injured Wednesday morning when a flash fire occurred while they were investigating a reported refrigerant leak at a single-family home in Silver Lake.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., LAFD received a 911 call from an air conditioning company servicing an HVAC unit in the basement of a home in the 2600 block of North Lakewood Avenue. The company reported a refrigerant leak, prompting the dispatch of an LAFD engine company to investigate.

While firefighters were investigating the reported leak, a flash fire occurred, injuring four LAFD members.

The incident was upgraded to a structure fire, bringing additional firefighters, paramedics and specialized resources to the scene. Responding crews quickly confirmed that the fire was extinguished while LAFD paramedics provided medical care to the injured firefighters.

All four firefighters were transported to local hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. Two non-LAFD individuals were also assessed at the scene but declined transportation to a hospital.
