LOS ANGELES-

Firefighters cut through window bars to rescue an elderly man from his burning home but were not able to save the woman inside.

At 8:41AM on December 14, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 2451 N Eastern Street in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Firefighters arrived to find a small (800 square foot) single family dwelling with smoke showing and reports of persons trapped inside.

While fire attack made their way inside the structure, additional firefighters cut through metal security bars on a bedroom window and rescued an elderly man (approximately 80 years old) from the burning building.

While the fire was extinguished in just 13 minutes from the 9-1-1 call being received, it was sadly too late for the 60 year old woman also in the home. Her body was located during the primary search and determined deceased on scene.

The male occupant was treated for smoke inhalation and transported by LAFD to the hospital in fair condition.

There were no indications of functioning smoke alarms in the 1920’s home upon LAFD arrival. The LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section is actively investigating the cause of the fire.
