LOS ANGELES-

An early morning fire in Downtown Los Angeles consumed a commercial building but firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to the adjacent structures.

At 6:11AM on January 7, 2025 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1200 block of S Hope St in Downtown Los Angeles.  Firefighters arrived to find a two-story, boarded up, row of commercial buildings with one unit well involved in fire.

Crews initiated a defensive operation, deploying master streams and large-diameter hand lines. While they worked to quell the blaze, the priority was defending the adjoining and exposed structures from fire extension.

Over 100 firefighters, operating under the command of Assistant Chief Douglas Lewis, battled for nearly 90 minutes to extinguish the fire. They successfully contained the flames to the building of origin, sparing the surrounding structures any fire damage. There were no injuries reported.
