2 people dead and 6 injured after SUV collides into side of Metro bus in Chatsworth
LOS ANGELES — At 5:03 p.m. on 09/15/26, 56 Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to the intersection of Nordhoff St and Ventura Bl, following a major, multi-vehicle collision involving an MTA bus and a passenger vehicle that resulted in eight total patients, including two fatalities.
Our specialized L.A. Urban Search and Rescue Team responded to perform complex heavy extrications for multiple individuals trapped inside the bus, as well as one victim pinned beneath the SUV. Upon freeing the car from the side of the bus, first responders encountered severe structural damage, including a gaping hole caused by the force of the impact.
"One was ejected from the bus during the impact," stated LAFD Capt. Branden Silverman during a Tuesday evening press briefing. "You can see that the SUV was actually cut open and the side of the SUV was removed in order to extract that patient. The patient that was inside of the bus was pinned by some of the structure of the bus and the seats. So, those also had to be cut away."
The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team responded to provide assistance to those impacted by the crash. LAPD is continuing the investigation of this accident.
