Update Hazardous Materials Spill Corrections - 04/30/2021 INC#0863

Update Corrections - Hazardous Materials Spill; INC#0863; 05:43PM; Harry Bridges Blvd x NB 110 Freeway on-ramp; https://bit.ly/3gQQFcU; Wilmington; *Corrections* 54 LAFD Firefighters, including LAFD HazMat experts have largely concluded assisting a private contractor in offloading a big rig *single tank trailer* (vehicle = tractor and only 1 trailer, there was no 2nd trailer) carrying a total load of *8,200* gallons diesel fuel cargo when the tractor and *single trailer* overturned. In now measuring the (6,400 gallons of) diesel fuel that has been safely transferred from the overturned tank trailer to a private contractor's clean-up tank truck, LAFD estimates that as many as 1,800 gallons of diesel motor fuel had leaked from the truck, with much entering the local storm drain system prior to LAFD arrival. LAFD continues to work with local, regional, State and Federal environmental agencies at and near the scene, who will be taking over incident management and coordinating remediation of the spill. Though the big rig driver was uninjured in the incident, one Caltrans employee and one LAFD Firefighter involved in the prolonged hot-weather response experienced non-life threatening illness, and were taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. Update Hazardous Materials Spill 04/30/2021 INC#0863

Update Hazardous Materials Spill; INC#0863; 03:00PM; Harry Bridges Blvd x NB 110 Freeway on-ramp; https://bit.ly/3gQQFcU; Wilmington; 54 LAFD Firefighters, including LAFD HazMat experts will remain at the scene for the next 2-3 hours to help a private contractor offload a big rig double tanker that was carrying a total load of 8,000 gallons diesel fuel cargo when the tractor and trailer (both liquid cargo tanks) overturned. There was no injury and no fire. The leak from the one compromised tank earlier subsided, as tank contents leaked only to the level of a "tear" in one compartment of the (unknown front or rear) tank. Firefighters now estimate that between 200-500 gallons of diesel motor fuel may have leaked onto the ground prior to their arrival, and despite their swift dirt diking effort, some of the product may have entered the local storm drain system. LAFD is working closely with environmental agencies at and near the scene: Media Inquiries: CHP South LA Log #1653; FS 49; Batt 6; South Bureau; Council District 15; BC6 E221 E238 E248 E285 E29 E48 E49 E95 EM13 JT1 JT4 RA38 RA848 RA85 SQ21 SQ48 SQ95 T21 T38 T48 T85; CH7; 13 14; Brian Humphrey

Update Hazardous Materials Spill; INC#0863; 01:25PM; Harry Bridges Blvd x 110 Freeway on-ramp; https://bit.ly/3gQQFcU; Wilmington; *Corrected location* from Anaheim Street to Harry Bridges Blvd. The big rig double tanker was carrying a total load of 8,000 gallons diesel fuel cargo when it overturned on the freeway on-ramp. The leak from one compromised tank has stopped, as the tank contents are now below the "tear" in that (unknown front or rear) tank. The male tanker driver was uninjured and there is no fire. LAFD personnel have dirt diked the remaining runoff to prevent it entering storm drains, though an estimated 200 gallons of the product may have entered the storm drain system prior to LAFD arrival. 54 LAFD personnel remain assigned to the incident, including LAFD HazMat experts.
