Update Address Updated Structure Fire; 08:10PM; 815 S Central Av; internal:/; #DTLA Firefighters continue to make progress against the fire remaining in the attic. Master streams being shut down temporarily to reassess condition of fire and possible re-positioning to hand lines at building entrances. Large, bulky stored goods created large fire load. Appears large quantity of red chili peppers also in structure, creating an additional irritant within the smoke. Fire contained primarily to the South and East end of the L shaped building. Update Structure Fire; 07:32PM; 1253 E 8th St; internal:/; #DTLA Firefighters making good progress on the bulk of the fire, using master streams in a coordinated, defensive operation from all sides of the building. The fire has run the attic of the structure (updated to poured in place concrete 100' x 300' L shaped strip mall). Urban Search and Rescue task force has assessed the building and does not see any signs of structural compromise. Over 190 FF assigned to this Major Emergency incident. No injuries reported. S Central Ave remains closed (for indefinite period) during this extended operation. Best to avoid S Central Av from E 8th to E Olympic. Transitioning to a defensive operation and all firefighters coming off the roof. LAPD is on scene and LA County Coroner notified. All questions = LAPD LAFD units remain on scene only to handle remaining hotspots with the brush fire and pick up equipment. The fire was contained to the unit of origin but the patient (age/gender unk) transported in full arrest was pronounced dead at the hospital with smoke and burn injuries. The apartment has excessive storage conditions. No other injuries reported. 39 FF gained knockdown in 17 mins. PIO Scott enroute to the scene. LAFD Arson enroute for the investigation.
