KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; 04:16PM; 7011 Woodley Av; internal:/; 36 LAFD FF's took just 16 min, confining flames to two adjacent 2nd floor units of a 3,542 two-story 6 unit apartment building (built 1954) that was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers; LAFD crews rescued one pet dog alive from the burning apartment, and another animal (?) alive from the adjoining apartment, they are both being attended to by LAFD personnel for unspecified medical needs until Dept of Animal Services or owners/caretakers arrive; No human injury reported; Fire cause/loss to be determined; Dispatched Units: E290 T90 E100 E39 T39 E239 RA873 RA83 BC10 E83 T73 E273; - Brian Humphrey

Update Structure Fire 01/20/2018

Update Structure Fire; 12:52PM; 4643 Cleland Av; internal:/; #MtWashington; Address numerics corrected to 4643; Fire was in detached two car garage, adjacent to 986 square foot home (built 1921), where two workers were performing unspecified maintenance or construction; One of the workers exited the home, and was standing near the garage when he lit a cigarette, preceding a dramatic explosion that heavily damaged the garage before it erupted in flames; The civilian burn patient = 61 y/o M with burns to head, face, both arms was taken by LAFD ambulance in serious condition to an area hospital; Neither his coworker or any firefighters were injured; Despite the odor noted by responders and the circumstances described prior to their arrival, the specific cause of the explosion and fire remains the focus of an active investigation; - Brian Humphrey
