Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0682; 01:08PM; 15701 W Roscoe Bl; https://bit.ly/3hJySB7; Van Nuys; The first 36 LAFD firefighters quickly extinguished the rubbish fire and nearby burning vegetation in 18 minutes, keeping the flames from getting inside of the adjacent structure (only sustained damage on the exterior of the eave). No reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Update Knockdown #CapriFire Brush Fire; INC#1269; 09:33PM; Santa Monica Mountains; https://bit.ly/2RGfMRM; Brentwood; A well-coordinated air and ground assault in rugged and remote terrain by 81 LAFD personnel (including 4 LAFD helicopters) and one LACoFD helicopter and three hand crews in Automatic Aid, have fully contained and extinguished a stubborn fire, that ultimately consumed a little more than one-half (0.50) acre of medium-to-heavy brush near the Sullivan Fire Road in Rustic Canyon in the vicinity of Murphy Ranch. Several uninjured hikers stranded by the blaze were shepherded to safety by LAFD ground crews. There were no injuries, no structure threat or damage, and no need for evacuation. Update Knockdown Brush Fire; INC#1213; 06:34PM; 5600 N Woodley Av; https://bit.ly/2JlkXms; Sepulveda Basin; A swift assault on the flames by water-dropping LAFD helicopters quickly slowed the forward progress of the fire, which has been fully contained at one (1) acre by ground crews in just 27 minutes. Though fully contained, and wind thankfully not a factor, crews will remain well past dusk to fully extinguish smoldering flames of the medium to heavy brush. There been no injuries, and no structures threatened or damaged. Though there are homeless encampments in the basin, none have been discovered close to the burnt vegetation. Update Mode Complete - Earthquake; INC#1694; 12:43AM; near El Monte, CA; https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci38695658/executive; The preliminary magnitude 4.6 earthquake that struck at 11:38 PM PDT approximately 3km WSW of El Monte, California, has been *updated to a M4.5 event*. Though felt widely in the greater Los Angeles area, we are pleased to report there are no serious injuries, and no preliminary indication of significant infrastructure damage within the City of Los Angeles. Firefighters from 106 Neighborhood Fire Stations have completed their citywide survey. The LAFD has concluded Earthquake Emergency Mode and returned to normal emergency operations. We ask local residents to be prepared for aftershocks. Should you be inside when shaking starts: DROP, COVER, HOLD ON! by protecting your head + neck while taking cover under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doorways until the shaking stops. At sunrise, we encourage you to again survey your home inside and out for possible damage, and to review earthquake safety and preparedness information at READY.GOV so that your family will be prepared not if, but when a significant earthquake occurs.; - Brian Humphrey

Pursuant of protocol, the LAFD is in Earthquake Emergency Mode, as firefighters from 106 Neighborhood Fire Stations survey their districts. At this time, there are no reports of serious injury or significant infrastructure damage related to the quake. We ask local residents to be prepared for aftershocks. If inside when shaking starts: DROP, COVER, HOLD ON! Protect your head + neck while taking cover under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doorways until the shaking stops. Please carefully inspect your home for damage, including any natural gas or water leaks, and use flashlights - not candles - if necessary for light.
