The two occupants of the unit escaped uninjured with their dog. Sadly, their cat was located deceased inside the unit. One patient from an adjacent unit is being evaluated (and likely transported) for an injury sustained during a fall while running from the unit. The fire was contained to the unit of origin. Update Hazardous Materials 10/19/2023 INC#0995

Update Hazardous Materials; INC#0995; 04:05PM; 201 N Main St; https://bit.ly/404etP9; Downtown; In a mailroom of the Los Angeles City Mall, two workers opened a package with concerning content. No substance was visible in the package. The two workers were evaluated by paramedics (did not have any signs or symptoms of illness) and transported to the hospital, as a precaution, for further evaluation. Out of an abundance of caution, these actions have/are taking place: 1) The mail room and a few adjacent businesses were evacuated by LAFD personnel; 2) The LAPD Bomb Squad is responding per protocol to further investigate other packages in the room. There is no active threat to City Hall, City Hall East or public safety. This response is a joint operation with LAFD and partner agencies including LAPD, FBI, and Postal Services. This type of incident will typically last several hours and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes. Los Angeles Street is closed between Temple & 1st.
