The truck contained 500 gallons of water in one tank and 60 gallons of diluted Metam Sodium (sodium methyl dithiocarbamate, often used as a soil fumigant). Some of the product spilled onto the roadway. LAFD HazMat Task Force 87 responded to identify the substance and mitigate the impact to the immediate area. The leak has been stopped, the spill contained, and is expected to have minimal environmental impact (degrade quickly). The driver of the truck was the only person involved in the traffic accident and has been transported in fair condition with minor injuries (due to impact, not related to HazMat). Residents are asked to widely avoid any downed wires, and to treat them as energized and deadly. Motorists: expect congestion and delay, avoid area and consider alternate route until LAFD and LADWP (en route, unknown ETA) operations are complete.
