KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1355; 06:57PM; 19629 W Valdez Dr; https://bit.ly/2V9zMC0; Tarzana; A two-story hillside home was engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to the brush, when firefighters arrived. Firefighters began the attack in defensive mode (from the exterior only), and later transitioned to offensive (inside the structure) to finish tracking down all of the fire within. Ultimately, it took 57 LAFD firefighters 33 minutes to extinguish the flames. The family escaped unharmed and four will be displaced (no Red Cross assistance needed). No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0822; 01:23PM; 18627 W Parthenia St; https://bit.ly/2VcH5sr; Northridge; Thirty-six firefighters responded to a one-story commercial automotive-related business with smoke showing. Firefighters identified an NFPA 704 Warning Placard (contains information about hazards inside) with a "no water use" warning on it. Firefighters made entry with dry chemical extinguishers, but found the smoke was due to a mechanical failure and the fire was already out, and declared a "knockdown" in 14 minutes. Firefighters ventilated the area to evacuate the smoke and potentially toxic fumes. There were no reported injuries. Update Hazardous Materials; INC#0392; 10:39AM; 9227 N Tujunga Av; https://bit.ly/3BXOY5M; Sun Valley; LAFD HazMat Team 1 made entry into the facility and did not detect any hazardous materials. Team 2 is confirming their findings at this time. 49 people were evacuated with 15 of those having been in the room of the suspected exposure. Contrary to initial reports, none of those 15 had any contaminants absorbed into their clothing. None of them had any medical complaints and none will be transported to the hospital. Once Team 2 confirms the 'all clear', the facility will be reopened and LAFD will clear the scene. There will be no further updates. Firefighters have evaluated all and there are no medical complaints at this time and no one transported to the hospital.
