The strike team consists of five engines and a battalion chief. It is called "Cal OES Strike Team" because the engines are the ones provided to LAFD by California Office of Emergency Services (CAL OES) for use in our fire department with first priority being brush fires in CA. As of 7:30PM, the Cranston Fire is over 3,000 acres with 0% containment, 500 personnel assigned and numerous mandatory evacuations in place. This is a STATIC situation with an accidental small spill of chemical (identified as betamercaptoethanal). The seven story structure was evacuated only as a precaution due to the slight odor noticeable in the building. Three people present at the spill were evaluated and had no medical complaint and declined transport. The spill has been cleaned and there are no current hazards. The incident will remain active as LAFD Hazmat squad responds to confirm all safety hazards are mitigated. No additional resources are being requested.
