Suspect Arrested for String of Reseda Arson Fires
The Los Angeles Fire Department’s Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section arrested a suspect in connection with a recent series of arson fires in the Reseda area, after LAFD responded to fourteen suspicious fires in the Reseda Area last week.
During a 72-hour period, during the second week of September 2023, the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) responded to fourteen suspicious fires involving rubbish, debris, or vegetation in the Reseda area. Thankfully, none of these fires have caused injury, and the property damage has been minimized by prompt calls to 9-1-1 and the rapid response of firefighters. Though a formal relationship between all fourteen of these fires has yet to be determined, Investigators from the LAFD Arson Counter-Terrorism (ACTS) Section have been working tirelessly to speak with witnesses and gather evidence, and the hard work has paid off. They have now identified one person who was responsible for at least four of the fires.
The ACTS worked closely with LAPD West Valley Division, who made the arrest on September 20, 2023, to bring in Yoryett Salazar and charge her with Arson (451(c) PC). She admitted to four of the fires (which was confirmed by video footage from local businesses), and has been charged previously with various felonies and misdemeanors. We ask the public if you have any additional information, photos, or video regarding these fires, please contact the LAFD Arson Tip Line: 213-893-9850 or email: LAFDArson@lacity.org, as these remaining fires are still being investigated.
