Program Grows Fire Family Connections For Those Who Need It Most
Her Father paid a price in his legendary Los Angeles Fire Department service of protecting others - and she pledged to help the children of other injured and fallen firefighters.
Meet Lillie Vehling, who recently graduated from Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles, who is not only California's top-tier (CIF State) Scholar Athlete of the Year, but also someone who boldly fulfilled the pledge to her father, by founding the Fire Family Ladder Program, bringing children who have historically been disconnected from the fire department family a new and vibrant life-long connection.
Firefighters and their families gathered for a Carnival in Northridge on August 26, 2023, hosted by The Fire Family Ladder Program. There were fun and games, delicious food, and LAFD demonstrations, all bringing the extended fire family closer together.
