The Los Angeles Fire Department is extremely proud to have two members honored at the Opening Ceremony of the Firehouse Expo in Nashville, TN on Thursday October 18, 2018.

Selected from hundreds of submittals from across the country, Firefighter Bryce Gutierrez and Dr. Marc Eckstein will represent the best of the LAFD.

Firefighter Gutierrez will receive the Michael O. McNamee Award of Valor.  The award recognizes acts of courage and bravery, including both physical acts to rescue a victim in hazardous conditions as well as critical decisions or preventative actions that ensured civilian and Firefighter safety.  Firefighter Gutierrez was selected for his heroic actions on January 16, 2017.  Without hesitation or the benefit of a hose line, he climbed into a well involved two story bungalow style home to rescue four young children from extremely hot and smoky conditions.  This action was courageous and a true representation of the professionalism of the men and women of our Department.

Dr. Marc Eckstein will receive the Thomas Carr Community Service Award.  The award is designed to encourage Fire Departments to engage in activities that truly give back and elevate a community in a way that can change lives.  Dr. Eckstein was selected for his significant contribution in developing the LAFD SOBER Unit Program, which has led to the expansion of our Advanced Provider Response Unit Program.  These programs represent a very innovative service to the community that enhances the overall Fire and Emergency Medical Services provided to the people of Los Angeles.

The LAFD congratulates both Firefighter Bryce Gutierrez and Dr. Marc Eckstein for being honored for their outstanding accomplishments.  Their dedication, commitment, and unparalleled professionalism are examples of the great things our Firefighters and Paramedics do every day to maintain and enhance our reputation as a fire service leader.
