Valley Glen-

Firefighters stop a large blaze and save multiple businesses in a commercial strip mall.

On May 25, 2017 at 9:47pm, the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire in the attic of 13645 W. Vanowen Street in Valley Glen.  Crews rapidly deployed multiple hose lines to battle the flames while coordinating their efforts with firefighters ventilating the rooftop, which limited the fire’s horizontal spread despite a shared attic.  The area above the unit of origin also incurred a partial roof collapse during the operation causing large flame lengths, but fortunately nobody was harmed.

Despite multiple businesses within the strip mall being threatened, the fire was held to one unit with exposure to just two units on either side. The greater alarm fire utilized 95 LAFD Firefighters to fully extinguishing the flames in just 69 minutes with no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Per protocol, LAFD Arson investigators were called to the scene and the cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
