LAFD Aids Ten Students After Suspected Overdose
The Los Angeles Fire Department evaluated ten students and transported seven in mild-to-moderate condition after a suspected overdose at a middle school.
At least fifty LAFD firefighters responded to the 5400 block of North Vesper Avenue at 10:34 on December 1, 2022, for a suspected overdose at Van Nuys Middle School. Firefighter-paramedics began evaluating several students immediately, while other crews simultaneously searched the entirety of the school premises for additional students in distress, in coordination with LA School Police and school officials.
A total of ten students were located with complaints of mild-to-moderate symptoms, all between twelve and fifteen years old. Seven students were transported to local pediatric medical centers after suspicion of an overdose situation. Thankfully, crews on scene confirmed that this incident was NOT related to fentanyl. The specific nature of the medical complaints and possible substance(s) involved will be determined by hospital personnel.
