Fire Rips Through Vacant Westlake Home and Two Nearby Apartment Buildings

Westlake-

Over 150 LAFD firefighters battled for over an hour to control flames from a vacant two-story home that spread to apartment buildings on either side.

Your Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned to the 200 block of South Reno Street at 1:17 AM on Monday, February 13, 2023 for a structure fire in a two-story vacant single-family home. The intense heat radiating outward on both sides of the fully-involved home quickly caught two adjacent apartment buildings on fire. Firefighters mounted well-coordinated attacks on all three structures simultaneously, while assisting residents with evacuation. A leaking or broken gas line was fueling the fire for a portion of the incident. Ultimately, it took a total of 73 minutes from the time of alarm to eliminate the flames.

Thankfully, only one single patient was found to be in minor medical distress (smoke inhalation), but did not require hospital transport. American Red Cross responded to assist the many families who will be displaced from approximately 56 units. LAFD Human Remains Detection (HRD) K9s conducted a systematic search to ensure there were no victims within debris.

LAFD Arson Section is actively investigating the cause of the fire.
