Update CONTAINED Hazardous Materials; INC#0748; 11:30AM; 940 W Harry Bridges Bl; https://bit.ly/4gOrpjd; Wilmington; Large drum of unknown substance became dislodged from a rack inside a shipping container on the train. The drum subsequently rolled out of container coming to rest on the ground adjacent to the rail container. LAFD Hazmat units have determined the container to be sound with no substance leaking. The scene is static at this time and additional units from LA County Fire Department have been released. LAFD is in the process of coordinating with professional industrial cooperators to secure and upright the drum. LAFD will remain on scene to monitor the situation until all hazards are abated. LA City and LA County Fire departments have Hazmat squads responding. Units are in investigative mode while determining the type of substance leaking as well as the severity of the leak. Members are taking cautionary measures for themselves and all civilians in the immediate area by maintaining and 150 foot perimeter from the substance. Upon arrival, units concluded that the vegetation fire consisted of multiple trees ignited which are in close proximity to multiple structures. Firefighters are engaged in extinguishing both the vegetation fire and the compromised structures. Cause of fire is undetermined. Update FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED Brush Fire; INC#0389; 07:38AM; Grand View Dr; https://bit.ly/4fCULjA; Elysian Park; All forward progress stopped. 35 Firefighters were able to surround the fire with hose lines in steep, heavy vegetation, and confine it to the 1/4 acre affected. Units will remain onscene with the assistance of the LA Park Rangers to monitor and extinguish and hot spots or flare-ups until the fire is deemed extinguished. No injuries reported. Cause under investigation. Firefighters are aggressively extending hose lines to flank the the slow moving fire. There is no wind, no structures threatened or injuries reported at this time. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0750; 11:27AM; 5282 N Townsend Av; https://bit.ly/4iRadva; Eagle Rock; 45 firefighters worked aggressively to extinguish the fire in 31 minutes. Firefighters were met with excessive storage in the dwelling which hampered entry to the dwelling as well as reaching the room of origin. Preliminary reports stated a possible trapped person inside the structure. Unfortunately, firefighters did find an occupant who had perished and was unable to be revived. No injuries to any additional civilians or LAFD members. Cause under investigation. LAFD Arson and LAPD responding.
