Originally burning as two separate small fires, careful coordination allowed them to merge before crews flanked and extinguished all remaining flames; several fire companies remain at the scene to address hot spots and ensure no further threat remains. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#0123; 02:12AM; 4400 N Crystal Springs Dr; https://bit.ly/3VTBz9i; #GriffithPark; Overnight, LAFD crews responded to reports of a rubbish fire near Griffith Park & Southern Railroad. Firefighters onscene reported a covered storage and maintenance area fully involved upon their arrival, with 30-ft flame lengths extending into nearby trees. Though accessing the area proved challenging, crews were able to force entry and achieve complete extinguishment in just over an hour. Loss of the involved structure(s) and any storage therein appeared to be complete. No injuries; fire cause is under active investigation. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1789; 09:49PM; 13645 W Riverside Dr; https://bit.ly/4bEVm2b; #ShermanOaks; Firefighters arrived at Notre Dame High School to find flames coming from the roof. Crews extended ladders to the roof and ascended to find fire near a roofing construction operation. Firefighters brought hose lines to the roof to extinguish the flames, which had only damaged the roof and exterior wall of the building. It took 38 firefighters 20 minutes to extinguish the flames. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1683; 09:40PM; 3111 S Flower St; https://bit.ly/3xQnrWu; #UniversityPark; With existing ventilation holes in the roof from a previous burn at this building, firefighters focused on deploying hose lines inside to apply water to the seat of the fire for a rapid extinguishment. It took 44 firefighters 18 minutes from the time of alarm to respond and extinguish the flames in a one-story commercial building (former auto dealership?). No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0848; 02:50PM; 1525 W Glenoaks Bl; https://bit.ly/4eVyGNY; #SanFernando; Over 100 LAFD firefighters responded to the structure fire in a one-story church in the City of San Fernando. Ambient temperatures of up to 105°F were recorded outside, as firefighters went to work cutting open the roof from above, and penetrating the ceilings from below, to make access to the stubborn attic fire. The occupants who were inside the building at the time safely evacuated prior to LAFD arrival. Crews continued battling in the hot weather to eliminate all remaining fire in just over 2 hours. During the incident, four firefighters sought medical help from on-scene paramedics due to heat-related illness. Three of them rested and recovered on scene and then continue working, and one was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care. Update Major Emergency Structure Fire; INC#0848; 02:05PM; 1525 W Glenoaks Bl; https://bit.ly/4eVyGNY; #SanFernando; Firefighters continue to chase down flames in hard-to-access spaces within the attic of an approximately 7,000 sq-ft one-story church (split level?). Crews on the roof have cut holes through the decking (roof under construction) and are using hose streams from the roof to spray down onto the flames. There are currently over 100 firefighters on scene battling the flames. The building has been evacuated. Several firefighters are on scene receiving care from paramedics for heat-related illness. Additional fire companies are en route for additional work relief in the heat (forecast high of 99°F).
