LAFD Releases January 2025 Palisades Fire After-Action Review Report; 04:21PM; Following this morning’s announcement, the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) released its After-Action Review Report (AARR) on the Palisades Fire. The goal of the report is to identify lessons learned from the first 36 hours of response to enhance preparedness and response for future wildfires. Structure Fire - NOW OUT; INC#1270; 05:11PM; 8500 S Vermont Av; https://bit.ly/4mVRSy3; Vermont Knolls; NOW OUT: 34 firefighters located and extinguished fire (22 minutes) in one unit of a seven-story residential apartment building. The fire involved an electric scooter with a lithium-ion battery which was being held in check by fire sprinklers. Two patients (10yo F, 7yo F) were brought out by firefighters and are being transported with non-life threatening injuries. KNOCKDOWN - FATALITY Structure Fire - FATALITY; INC#0938; 02:10PM; 2353 S Portland St; https://bit.ly/4h8PNh2; University Park; KNOCKDOWN: 47 firefighters quickly located and extinguished fire in one unit on the 2nd floor of a (mixed) three-story apartment building (updated from two-story). While conducting a primary search during their fire attack, firefighters located a victim in the involved unit. Unfortunately, the individual was beyond medical help and determined dead on scene. LAFD Arson is responding for the cause investigation per protocol for a fatality fire. Victim identification and cause of death will be determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
