KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire 05/29/2024 INC#0854

KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0854; 03:13PM; 5517 W San Vicente Blvd; https://maps.app.goo.gl/upEamVv3Cc2vLLqXA; #MidWilshire; 78 firefighters battled fire in this vacant strip mall for 1 hour and 49 minutes. Crews initially forced entry to the structure and mounted an interior attack with handlines, in coordination with companies on the roof who ventilated the structure. Once "defensive mode" was declared, all personnel retreated from the structure and fought fire with heavy streams of water from a distance. One front facade and the roof collapsed, with no injuries reported. Though a second facade appeared compromised, a complete knockdown of the fire was declared with no further structural collapse. All nearby exposures were protected with no fire spread. Several support companies were attached to the incident to provide rehabilitation and air tanks to firefighters on-scene. LAFD's heavy equipment specialists and several fire companies remain on-scene for a planned demolition of the vacant building due to safety concerns. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.; FS 68; Batt 18; South Bureau; Council District 5; E(6) T(6) RA(2) RA-800(2) E68 E261 T61 RA861 RA61 E58 E229 T29 E294 T94 BC18 BC11 SO1 E215 T15 E13 CM22 EM5 BC13 CM20 E61 RA58 T27 E227 UR27 E95 SQ95 EM11 T3 E203 E3 UR3 HR3 UR88 BC1 RA803 PI1 PI2 HE1 RS3 EA1 AR1 AR7 AR39 ; CH9; 15; Lyndsey Lantz

Structure Fire 05/29/2024 INC#0854

Structure Fire; INC#0854; 01:24PM; 5517 W San Vicente Blvd; https://maps.app.goo.gl/upEamVv3Cc2vLLqXA; #MidWilshire; Initial arriving companies found a one-story vacant and boarded-up strip mall, approximately 50ft x 75ft, with light smoke showing from the attic. Crews initiated forcible entry and roof operations, but the fire load and extended operation time ultimately forced personnel to adopt a "defensive" posture -- all companies retreated and heavy streams of water were employed to continue extinguishing the flames and protect all exposures. One facade collapsed due to fire load during use of heavy water streams; no injuries reported. Crews remain active on-scene at this time.; FS 68; Batt 18; South Bureau; Council District 5; E(6) T(6) RA(2) RA-800(2) E68 E261 T61 RA861 RA61 E58 E229 T29 E294 T94 BC18 BC11 SO1 E215 T15 E13 CM22 EM5 BC13 CM20 E61 RA58 T27 E227 UR27 E95 SQ95 EM11 T3 E203 E3 UR3 HR3 UR88 BC1 RA803 PI1 PI2 HE1 RS3 EA1 AR1 AR7 AR39 ; CH9; 15; Lyndsey Lantz
