The building was under construction (updated to single family dwelling as opposed to apartment building) and well involved in fire. #LAFD used a defensive operation to battle this fire. Firefighters also faced an electrical hazard with wires down and arcing on one side of the structure. Two additional dwellings were exposed with flames impinging the rear (Bravo) exposure (single family dwelling) and firefighters defended them from any significant damage. No injuries reported. The strike team consists of five engines and a battalion chief. It is called "Cal OES Strike Team" because the engines are the ones provided to LAFD by California Office of Emergency Services (CAL OES) for use in our fire department with first priority being brush fires in CA. As of 7:30PM, the Cranston Fire is over 3,000 acres with 0% containment, 500 personnel assigned and numerous mandatory evacuations in place. Hazardous Materials; INC#0530; 10:12AM; 1985 E Zonal Av; http://bit.ly/2NEUQXw; Boyle Heights; LAFD Hazmat response to a facility of USC (pharmaceutical sciences center). This is a STATIC situation with an accidental small spill of chemical (identified as betamercaptoethanal). The seven story structure was evacuated only as a precaution due to the slight odor noticeable in the building. Three people present at the spill were evaluated and had no medical complaint and declined transport. The spill has been cleaned and there are no current hazards. The incident will remain active as LAFD Hazmat squad responds to confirm all safety hazards are mitigated. No additional resources are being requested.
