Toxic Exposure; INC#1556; 07:49PM; 7320 W Hawthorn Av; https://bit.ly/3Xoo29t; Hollywood; Firefighters are on scene of a large, 5 story modern center hall apartment building (4 residential over parking). Multiple carbon monoxide alarms activated on the 1st and 2nd occupied floors. Firefighters made entry and the 5-sensor gas monitor indicated the presence of hydrogen cyanide as well as carbon monoxide, predominately in one corner of the building on the 1st occupied floor. Occupants of the three units in the area of highest concentration were evacuated and the units are being ventilated. Additionally, firefighters are evacuating the units above those, on the 2nd occupied floor. All others are being sheltered in place while firefighters continue to check levels in the surrounding units (it is dropping off significantly as they move further down the hall). There were construction workers doing repairs (including welding) on the ducting for the heating/air conditioning in the most affected unit. LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad is responding and consulting with the Incident Commander while enroute. It took firefighters 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, confining the flames to the unit of origin. No reported injuries. Firefighters shut down gas and water to the home, which only sustained minor damage. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries. DWP and SoCalGas have been notified and are responding. Update Civilian Fatality Structure Fire 01/12/2023 INC#0411

Update Civilian Fatality Structure Fire; INC#0411; 09:13AM; 5555 W Harold Wy; https://bit.ly/3GBAiwf; #Hollywood; 52 LAFD Firefighters took just 24 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish fire within one 2nd floor unit at the rear of a 63,682 square-foot, 70 unit 4 story (3 occupied floors over parking) center hallway style apartment building, with an open central courtyard. In battling the flames, firefighters discovered one adult male deceased within the involved apartment. His site affiliation and circumstances of his death have yet to be determined. No other injuries reported. Fire cause under active investigation. Media Inquiries: LAPD Hollywood Division (Incident #1196) and Coroner. Update Debris Flow 01/10/2023 INC#2101

Update Debris Flow; INC#2101; 01:39AM; 3789 N Fredonia Dr; https://bit.ly/3ioYwSj; Studio City; Firefighters made contact at seven homes on Fredonia which are along the debris flow and there is no damage to any of the homes. There are a total of 17 people sheltering in place in the homes. There are two homes on Wrightwood Lane (just north/west of Bellfield Way) which are affected by the debris flow. The flow went into the backyard of one home with about 1 ft of mud against the back sliding door but it is static and expected to hold. The 2nd home does not have any damage but has debris on side. There are a total of 8 occupants in the homes sheltering in place. Firefighters are continuing to evaluate and assess any other homes believed to be of concern. The water is draining and not increasing. There are no injuries reported. Drivers should avoid Wrightwood Ln to Fredonia Dr down to Lankershim / Cahuenga as this will be an extended duration operation for Street Services to clear the roads. Update Debris Flow ; INC#2101; 12:43AM; 3789 N Fredonia Dr; https://bit.ly/3ioYwSj; Studio City; There is a debris flow moving down Fredonia Dr towards Kentucky Dr. There is 3-4 feet of debris and mud covering the road. Crews are both north and south of the area working to gain access/situational awareness and evaluate all affected (5) homes. Currently, none of the homes firefighters have accessed (all homes on the South side) have any flooding or damage to their homes but they are not able to evacuate due to the condition of the road. It is safer for them to shelter in place at this time. There are two homes on the North side of the street which firefighters have not been able to access. Firefighters will continue working to reach each of the homes. Street maintenance notified and responding. The water is starting to recede, estimated to be down about 1 ft from the level at the start of the incident. There are no injuries reported nor any damage to homes. Fredonia Dr is completely closed at the incident address and drivers are advised to avoid Fredonia from Wrightwood down to where it turns into Kentucky Dr (to Lankershim). Hiker Rescue - Interagency Hoist Op 01/08/2023 INC#1009

Hiker Rescue - Interagency Hoist Op; INC#1009; 04:22PM; 2100 Queensferry Rd; https://bit.ly/3Zo7waI; Brentwood; Firefighter / Paramedics made their way to an adult male patient who is stable but in serious condition and unable to walk (non-traumatic medical complaint). The terrain/location is not conducive to a safe ground based rescue. LAFD Air Ops was in the process of a hoist/transport of an injured hiker on a separate incident therefore a LA Co Sheriff helicopter was requested. LASD Air 5 is closer than the LAFD hoist helicopter and will conduct the hoist operation supported by LAFD firefighters on the ground and LAFD command helicopter.
