A broken gas line was fueling the fire, and the gas company responded to shut off the main. Excessive storage inside presented challenges in accessing the fire, and limited the number of personnel that fit inside the structure. Overall, it took 38 firefighters 82 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. No reported injuries. Thankfully, the occupants who were initially reported as unaccounted for were not home at the time, and no human patients were found. Firefighters rescued one canine from the structure. It took 36 firefighters 20 minutes to access, confine, and extinguish the flames. The odor has dissipated and all readings are normal. The previously-smelled substance was not able to be identified, but is no longer a hazard. All readings were within normal limits. The building has been deemed safe to inhabit, and all evacuees are able to re-enter the building. A total of two adult patients were transported with medical complaints (unknown if they were connected to the odor). LAFD Hazardous Materials specialists are responding to investigate the source of the odor. Approximately 100 people have been evacuated from the building, and only four of those have been identified with complaints. Paramedics are assessing the four patients, and currently only one hospital transport has been ordered. No widespread or escalating hazard.
