LAPD INC#3498, CHP LOG 1428. Fire crews are establishing hand lines and coordinating with air resources to contain the brush fire, currently estimated at 4 acres. UPDATE Traffic FATALITY/Brush Fire; INC#1262; 04:33PM; Sb 405 Fy; https://bit.ly/4lMKBA5; Mission Hills; Forward progress has now been stopped on both sides of the 5 Freeway. *Correction to previous information:* the original fire (west of the 5 Freeway, near the 405 interchange) was held to 1 acre, while the spot fire (east of the 5 freeway) reached 7 acres, for a total of 8 acres involved. Crews will remain on scene for mop up and to ensure 100% containment with a bare-earth perimeter established around the burned areas. No injuries reported beyond the initial traffic fatality (age/gender remains unknown at this time -- inquiries are respectfully referred to the LA County Medical Examiner, now on scene). First-arriving companies report one car over the side of the 5 Freeway, fully involved with fire. Approximately 1/4 acre of brush is also burning (presumed secondary to the vehicle incident) in the area, uphill and at a slow rate of spread. Approximately 80 firefighters are assigned to these incidents, including air resources, heavy rescue units, and hand crews. Gas company and additional LAFD (firefighter recovery) resources have been requested. Fire crews have begun to overhaul the structure, salvaging property and cooling hot spots on the first and second floors to ensure the fire hazard is completely mitigated.
