KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire - Fatality; INC#0393; 08:34AM; 1456 W Hepner Av; https://bit.ly/3FvHJWx; #EagleRock; Firefighters arrived to find a single-family home, well-involved with fire, and reports of four occupants inside and three nearby structures being exposed to heat. It took 32 firefighters 29 minutes to extinguish the flames, while protecting all neighboring structures. Three occupants escaped, but sadly, one person was found deceased inside the structure. No other residents or firefighters were injured. The fire's cause is under active investigation. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0514; 10:08AM; 6320 E Ruby St; https://bit.ly/3GHYm29; Highland Park; KNOCKDOWN: 32 firefighters achieved full extinguishment in 21 minutes with no injuries reported. Firefighters encountered significant storage within the attic which delayed their ability to reach the seat of the fire. Additional crews conducted salvage operations on the interior (which remained clear of fire) to protect belongings from water/smoke damage. There was a roofing operation underway at the time of the fire. Official cause and $ loss TBD. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0554; 10:10AM; 112 W 5th St; https://bit.ly/3vtI6Mb; Downtown; KNOCKDOWN: 22 minutes after receiving the alarm, the first engine company on scene ascended the stairwell to the 11th floor. They located a contents fire, held in check by fire sprinklers, and fully extinguished the fire ensuring it was contained to one unit. The hallway is clear of smoke and no evacuation is required. There is some residual water on the 10th and 11th floors and firefighters are taking equipment up to conduct a water removal operation. One patient (age/gender unknown) is being evaluated for possible smoke inhalation. Update #LongBeachFire Major Emergency Structure Fire; INC#0159; 03:40PM; 1456 S Long Beach Av; https://bit.ly/3UQnOGY; #Downtown; LAFD Firefighters and Investigators have remained at the scene of this fire through the morning and afternoon, cooling large volumes of smoldering debris while continuing to seek a definitive cause of the fire. Shortly after noon today, the remains of an adult male (unknown site affiliation / circumstances) were discovered in the rubble. An LAFD Human Remains Detection Canine Team systematically searched the site, and found no immediate indication that additional deceased persons might be on site. A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the cause, time and manner of their death, will be determined by the Coroner. Knockdown - #LongBeachFire Major Emergency Structure Fire; INC#0159; 03:57AM; 1456 S Long Beach Av; https://bit.ly/3UQnOGY; #Downtown; 106 LAFD Firefighters took less than 90 minutes in well-coordinated defensive operations to access, confine and extinguish a fully involved 100' x 100' one-story commercial building, the scene of a previous fire, as well as flames that extended to involve combustible contents at an adjacent pallet yard. LAFD crews were able to prevent fire from damaging two nearby commercial structures. One Firefighter sustained a non-life threatening burn injury at the height of the battle, and has been taken to an area hospital in fair condition. No other injuries reported. With 101 LAFD Firefighter assigned in well-coordinated defensive operations, this incident has escalated to Major Emergency status, and is formally known as the "Long Beach Fire". Firefighters continue to battle flames in a fully involved 100' x 100' one-story commercial building, the scene of a previous fire.
