The Industrial and Commercial Section plays a critical role in fire prevention, life safety, and regulatory compliance across the City of Los Angeles. The units comprising the Section are primarily responsible for reducing fire risk in occupancies that include industrial facilities, commercial buildings, high-density developments, and brush clearance, while ensuring adherence to fire and life safety codes.
The Industrial and Commercial Section offices are distributed throughout the City to ensure comprehensive coverage:
- Airport Industrial Unit – Oversees fire and life safety compliance at airport facilities and related operations.
- Brush Clearance Unit – Enforces brush and/or hazardous vegetation management, administers the annual contract for private brush clearance, and processes noncompliant parcels in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
- Central Industrial Unit – Covers the downtown area, South and Central Los Angeles, and a portion of Hollywood’s industrial and commercial occupancies.
- Harbor Industrial Unit – Inspects areas from the Harbor Gateway to the Los Angeles Harbor, including Port facilities.
- High Rise Unit – Specializes in inspection and enforcement within high-rise buildings, including fire protection systems and emergency procedures.
- West Industrial Unit – Serves the western region of Los Angeles with industrial and commercial inspections.
- Valley Industrial Unit – Covers the San Fernando Valley’s industrial and commercial properties.
Collectively, these units ensure that Los Angeles’ environments operate safely, comply with regulations, and are prepared to prevent and respond to fire and life safety emergencies. Their work reduces risks to the public, protects property, and directly supports firefighter safety across the City.
