Who implements the Hazardous Waste Program in Los Angeles City?
The Los Angeles COUNTY Fire Department (LACoFD) Health Hazardous Materials Division (HHMD) is a Participating Agency (PA) of LAFD CUPA and implements the Hazardous Waste Generator element of the Unified Program (including onsite treatment under tiered permitting) for all businesses in the City of Los Angeles. LAFD CUPA is responsible for generating permits and invoices for hazardous waste facilities, while County HHMD inspects those facilities to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. HHMD is also responsible for investigating complaints regarding hazardous waste mismanagement at businesses.
