Community Risk Reduction

Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is a cutting-edge approach to creating a healthier and safer Los Angeles.

As an integral part of the Los Angeles Fire Department's mission, the LAFD CRR Unit utilizes a multi-step approach to identify and prioritize risks, threats, and hazards facing our communities. Strategies are then developed and implemented to prevent and/or reduce their impact. Fostering partnerships throughout the city in both the public and private sector, LAFD's CRR Unit works collectively to continue improving preparedness and enhance our city’s safety and resiliency.

Currently, the CRR Unit is focused on two areas that are among the most pressing issues in Los Angeles: Teaching hands-only CPR and reducing falls among the elderly.

Do you know hands-only CPR? If not, here are the two simple steps, via the American Heart Association:

  • Call 9-1-1 (or send someone to do that)
  • Push hard and fast in the center of the chest
