All train traffic has been stopped. Union Pacific reporting smoke showing from a pedestrian foot tunnel. 1/4 acre fire in light to medium sized brush exposing a 2 story apartment building. Firefighters coordinated interior fire attack and roof operations, knocking down vehicles on fire inside the structure in 29 minutes. 68 firefighters on scene. No exposed structures involved with fire; no injuries. Update General Fire - Northbound 110 Lanes Reopening; INC#1724; 08:50PM; Nb 110 Fy; https://bit.ly/4cR1KYf; Wilmington; Update at 1:00 PM on 5/6/26: LAFD, Caltrans, and CHP working in unified command with City, County and State partners, have completed a structural stability assessment with all available technology, including LAFD drones and robots. Caltrans engineers have determined that it is safe to open the 110 freeway in both directions. Emergency personnel will remain on site, requiring one northbound lane to remain closed. The Northbound 110 Fwy remains closed from Channel Street to Harry Bridges Boulevard. RECOMMENDED ALTERNATE ROUTES (Northbound 110): From San Pedro: Take Gaffey Street north to access the freeway at a later point. Alternative Surface Routes: Use Harbor Boulevard or Western Avenue (CA-213) to move northbound through the Wilmington/San Pedro area. Update - General Fire; INC#1724; 08:50PM; Nb 110 Fy; https://bit.ly/4cR1KYf; Wilmington; Update at 5:00 PM, 5/5/26: LAFD, CHP, and Caltrans continue to operate in Unified Command to mitigate the incident. This is a complex, prolonged-duration emergency that will have many phases prior to completion. The Northbound 110 Fwy remains closed from Channel Street to Harry Bridges Boulevard. Public and responder safety remains a top priority. A joint press conference is scheduled at the media staging area north of the incident on John S.
