Rubbish Fire - Now Out; INC#1373; 05:06PM; 403 E 5th St; https://bit.ly/3JA4flo; Downtown; Outside fire which extended to the plywood boarding and rolling-steel door on a one-story 50' x 100' commercial building. The commercial building on fire in turn exposed a three-story, mixed residential/commercial building (also boarded up). Firefighters quickly extinguished the outside fire and ensured there was no further extension of fire to the two buildings. No injuries or occupants reported. Structure Fire - Now Out; INC#1458; 06:43PM; 20349 W Valerio St; https://bit.ly/4n5XFBJ; Winnetka; Outside fire that extended into the attic and second story of a two-story single-family dwelling. Firefighters initiated fire attack from the roof and interior simultaneously, while also coordinating salvage operations within the home to protect property from water damage. This fire proved stubborn -- crews chased it into the walls of the home before finally declaring knockdown in 35 minutes with 47 firefighters working on scene. First-arriving companies proceeded in the offensive mode, made access to an apartment on the second floor, and found fire in a closet. Knockdown declared in 20 minutes from initial 911 contact. Brush Fire - Forward Progress Stopped; INC#1123; 01:53PM; 15350 W Burbank Bl; https://bit.ly/4fOLnLm; #ShermanOaks; Forward progress has been halted on this brush fire, estimated at just over nine total acres. Though flames impacted brush along the south side of Burbank Blvd, firefighters successfully prevented spread north of the road. No injuries reported -- fire companies are proceeding with extreme caution due to damaged trees and branches throughout the burned area. Heavy equipment crews are en route to assist with mop-up and the establishment of bare-earth dozer lines around the perimeter, with full containment expected to require an extended operation into early evening. Crew 4 is on scene with first-arriving companies; additional ground and air resources have been requested. Dozer lines from previous burns are expected to help keep this fire in check.
