The fire was held to five acres, kept wholly within the brush area at Ballona Creek. There were no structures damaged. Los Angeles County Fire Department provided one water-dropping helicopter and two hand crews to assist with the operation. Unfortunately, a male patient (age unknown) was found to be beyond medical help and determined dead on scene. Address updated (as shown in alert). This is a previous burn location and a partial roof collapse occurred early in the incident. Update Structure Fire - FATALITY; INC#1073; 05:35PM; 525 N Sycamore Av; https://bit.ly/3f4tDhO; Hancock Park; Firefighters located an approximately 66 year old male patient in the fire unit, pulled him out and transferred him to paramedics waiting at the exit of the building. The firefighter/paramedics provided immediate advanced lifesaving care for severe smoke inhalation while conducting a rapid transport to a trauma center. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the hospital by ER staff. This incident is now under investigation by LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section as is protocol for a fatality fire.
