Investigation; 10:44PM; 7S LAX; internal:/; LAX / Terminal Area; LAFD was on scene investigating report of light smoke with smoke detector activation in electrical room at LAX lower level. LAX maintenance workers report there was an electrical short. No active fire, No evacuations and passengers are not impacted. Resources are being released. Approximately 6 people utilized the evacuation center. 58 homes are without gas tonight (on Glenco and Walgrove) but do have electricity. SoCal Gas will begin turning the gas back on at approximately 8:00AM tomorrow. All residents can return to their homes tonight. Update Hazmat; 07:33PM; 2013 S Walgrove Av; internal:/; Venice; For residents affected by the evacuation and in need of assistance, an evacuation center is now open at Penmar Recreation Center 1341 Lake Street. SoCal Gas secured the gas leak and work is continuing to ensure the area is safe. Duration of evacuation is undetermined at this time. Update Hazmat; 05:50PM; 2013 S Walgrove Av; internal:/; Venice; The gas company successfully pinched off the gas line with the leak. However, the valve needs to be shut which requires additional digging to reach the shut off. Shutting this valve will subsequently shut off gas to approximately 60 homes in the immediate area. Walgrove Ave from Victoria to Vienna Way. Also on Glencove from Victoria to Vienna. For questions regarding your gas service, please contact the SoCal Gas direct. There remain no injuries reported. LAPD conducted precautionary evacuations of approx 50 homes near the incident. No injuries reported. Investigation of suspicious (unknown) cylinders at back of home continues.
