Update Vehicle Rollover with Hazardous Materials; INC#0796; 02:00PM; 940 N Seaside Av; https://bit.ly/3TLrew9; #SanPedro; Firefighters are on scene of an overturned big rig with lithium ion batteries in the trailer (shipping container). The batteries have been damaged, and are on fire and off-gassing (with reports of one battery exploding). LAFD Hazardous Materials specialists are on scene. Firefighters have created a large perimeter around the site and are in the defensive mode (keeping their distance with hose lines for protection). There are no evacuations and no widespread or off-site hazard. The 47 Freeway remains closed east of Ferry. LAFD Hazardous Materials specialists are on scene. No reported injuries. Crews are setting up hose lines in case of fire hazard and decontamination stations in case of hazardous materials exposure. The 47 Freeway will be completely shut down between Ferry Street and Long Beach. One of them was in critical condition, and the other three were in moderate condition. The scene is under investigation by LAPD (Inc #3419). Update KNOCKDOWN #VANNUYS Structure Fire; INC#0048; 01:11AM; 6909 N Sepulveda Bl; https://bit.ly/3BeMRON; Van Nuys; 38 Firefighters responded to a three-story modern building with contents fire in one unit on top floor. Crews coordinated fire attack and extinguished the flames in 23 minutes. The fire was confined to the unit-of-origin and was prevented from spreading. No reported injuries. Update #SanPedro Cliff Rescue ; INC#1859; 11:42PM; 640 W Shepard St; https://bit.ly/3ZJ3UCK; San Pedro; Due to weather conditions and visibility, Air Operations was unable to assist with hoist operation. Firefighters and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) on the ground performed a land-based technical rope rescue to raise 1 patient at base of rocky area known as Sunken City. Ambulatory patient was evaluated and released on scene. unknown age/gender/injuries. Update KNOCKDOWN Update Structure Fire Structure Fire; INC#0268; 06:13AM; 2050 S Bundy Dr; https://bit.ly/3TIBjZF; Sawtelle; Defensive firefighting efforts will continued through the night in a systematic manner to fully extinguish stubborn flames deep within the tons of smoldering debris created by the vacant and now heavily fire damaged 53,500 square foot two-story commercial building. At approximately 0200 hours an official knockdown was declared by fire recourses on scene. To assist in that effort for full extinguishment, LAFD heavy mechanized equipment (i.e. bulldozers, excavators, etc.) were utilized for strategic demolition and physical hazard abatement. Though no injuries have been reported, and no escalating or off-site hazard identified, pursuant to protocol Department of Building & Safety Inspector have assessed the location, and environmental officials have been notified of the firefighting efforts and controlled demolition related to the unstable structure. LAFD operations were completed and the building was turned over to Department of Building & Safety at 1100 hours. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is on scene assisting. Traffic will resume to normal operation once Building & Safety and LADWP have completed operations dealing with the building.
