Animal Assist 02/22/2020 INC#1209

Animal Assist; INC#1209; 06:10PM; Santa Monica Mountains; http://bit.ly/2Piv66r; Pacific Palisades; PRELIM: Just before 5 PM today, LAFD assisted an injured horse rider (unk age / gender / condition ) near Will Rogers State Park, who reportedly suffered a non-life threatening injury when bucked from the saddle. The horse could not be located at that time. LAFD crews hiked into remote and rugged terrain of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area shortly after 6 PM, to discover the apparently uninjured horse under a canopy of vegetation. PLAN A = now underway: LAFD personnel are calming the horse and assisting it in walking toward a trail and safety, as their colleagues seek to construct a ramp (initially with foliage and debris) in remote terrain to assist in the effort. Though an LAFD Helicopter is assigned, it is presently serving in an aerial reconnaissance and command support function, illuminating the scene with its 30 million candlepower "Night Sun" spotlight from a safe elevation (so as not to spook the horse). Should there be a confirmed need for a helicopter hoist (PLAN B), we will issue an additional LAFD ALERT message.; FS 69; Batt 9; West Bureau; Council District 11; Dispatched LAFD Units: BC9 E269 E69 E90 H4 HA4 RA69 T69 UR88; Radio Channels: 7; 12; - Brian Humphrey
