Thankfully, no one was injured. Physical Rescue; INC#1762; 06:34PM; SB 405 Fwy x Burbank Bl; https://bit.ly/3amqV4G; #SepulvedaBasin; Firefighters responded to a one-vehicle traffic collision (car vs tree) on the right shoulder of the San Diego Freeway, finding one trapped patient. Firefighters quickly performed extrication measures to free the solo patient from the vehicle. The patient was transported in critical condition to a local trauma center. CHP Log #3779. Earthquake Mode 08/20/2023 INC#1245

Earthquake Mode; INC#1245; 02:41PM; #LosAngeles; The USGS preliminary report is a magnitude 5.1 earthquake at 2:41 PM PST centered in Ojai, California. The LAFD is now in earthquake mode. All 106 neighborhood fire stations will conduct a strategic survey of their districts, examining all major areas of concern (transportation infrastructures, large places of assemblages, apartment buildings, power-lines, etc). This survey will be conducted from the ground, air and sea. Once this process is complete and reports are consolidated, assuming there is no significant damage, Earthquake mode will be complete. This process typically takes less than one hour. There are currently no initial reports of structural damage or injuries. An update will be provided once earthquake mode is complete.; Nicholas Prange

KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire 08/20/2023 INC#0279

KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0279; 05:03AM; 417 S Colyton St; https://bit.ly/3KNeXCF; #DowntownLA; Firefighters responded to a one-story commercial building with heavy fire inside, threatening an adjacent three-story residential apartment building. Fire crews engaged in a defensive fire fight (from the exterior). Crews ascended ladders to the roof and (defensively) cut strips in the roof (trench cut) to limit the horizontal spread. Firefighters set up heavy streams, including 2.5-inch hand lines, portable monitors, and wagon batteries (deck guns). Ultimately, 98 firefighters skillfully contained the intense fire to only the unit of origin, and extinguished the flames in 47 minutes. No damage was sustained by the adjacent buildings. No reported injuries. KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire 08/19/2023 INC#1262

KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1262; 05:59PM; 1214 E King Bl; https://bit.ly/3skIehX; #CentralAlameda; Firefighters located a small attic fire in the rear of the home. Prior to making access to the attic, firefighters ensured all occupants were out of the structure, and then moved belongings/furniture to one area of each room and covered them to protect from smoke and water damage (salvage operations). Firefighters then made access through the ceiling and roof to the attic space, and extinguished the fire. Ultimately, it took 22 firefighters 15 minutes. No reported injuries.
