Structure Fire; INC#0025; 01:20AM; 1084 W Leighton Av; http://bit.ly/31WDwV8; Exposition Park; KNOCKDOWN: 53 firefighters extinguished fire under heavy smoke conditions in a one-story home in 34 minutes. Firefighters arrived to find reports of people still inside of the burning structure, that appeared to be a board-and-care. The primary search team found one person in grave condition. As they were pulling the first patient out of the back door, they found a second patient (also in grave condition) just inside the rear exit of the home. Firefighters initiated CPR on scene outside of the house and both patients were transported to local hospitals by firefighter/paramedics. One Engineer working at the pump panel in the street heard reports of multiple patients being rescued and ran around to the rear of the house to assist with pulling them out the back door. He suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries while assisting in the rescue and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. At least 8 adults and 4 children were displaced by this fire. Conflicting reports say multiple occupants could still be unaccounted for, but no other patients were found in the structure during primary or secondary search (possibly evacuated and have not returned). Red Cross is responding to assist these families during this difficult time. Update CONTAINED Brush Fire; INC#1109; 04:21PM; 1450 N Elysian Park Rd; http://bit.ly/2Nn9TIj; Elysian Park; CORRECTED ADDRESS. 81 firefighters worked quickly to deploy progressive hose lays up both flanks to contain the 1-acre fire in less than 30 minutes. Firefighters will remain on scene to chase down any remaining hot spots within the burn area. No reported injuries. Unknown cause. Update KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#0648; 12:15PM; 745 N Toyopa Dr; http://bit.ly/2zgzOcB; Pacific Palisades; The first 16 firefighters to arrive extinguished fire in a fully-involved laundry room inside of a two-story home in just 13 minutes, before it was able to spread anywhere else in the fire. Firefighters used a small ladder designed for interior use (commonly referred to as a "baby" ladder, which is narrow enough to fit into the scuttle hole) to verify that the fire had not gotten into the attic. Update Traffic Collision; INC#1065; 07:05PM; 12850 W Branford St; http://bit.ly/31Pmh82; Pacoima; There are updated medical conditions for the 2 injured women taken to the hospital: The sedan occupant is in fair condition, while the apartment dweller is in serious condition. The dump truck will likely be removed from the structure within the hour, under the watchful eye of more than 50 LAFD Firefighters who have been assigned to the incident. The LA Dept of Building & Safety has red-tagged three units of the 28 unit apartment building as untenable, and will further evaluate the structure when the truck is removed. Because of the physical damage and need to secure all utilities at the building, the (unknown total number of) occupants of all 28 units will be temporarily displaced. The LAFD is shuttling residents to a temporary shelter at Montague Charter Academy (13000 Montague Street, Arleta, CA 91331), for personal comfort and needs assessment. Update Traffic Collision; INC#1065; 05:36PM; 12850 W Branford St; http://bit.ly/31Pmh82; Pacoima; The two injured women: one from the silver compact sedan, and the other reportedly from within the badly damaged first floor apartment, have both been taken to the hospital in good condition. The LA Dept of Building & Safety will be on scene shortly, and LAFD PIO Captain Cody Weireter is en route with ETA 6:15 PM. LAFD will soon be overseeing the removal of the dump truck from the premises. The collision is being investigated by LAPD Valley Traffic Division, Incident #4400; FS 98; Batt 12; Valley Bureau; Council District 6; - Brian Humphrey
