One hiker was experiencing heat-related illness symptoms, but declined hospital transport after being evaluated by paramedics. LAFD Air Operations hoisted the two hikers into the rescue helicopter and brought them to a nearby landing zone to get them safely back to their vehicle. CONTAINED Brush Fire; INC#1017; 01:22PM; 4222 N Vineland Av; https://bit.ly/4dSlqsx; #StudioCity; Firefighters responded to the rear parking lot of The Garland hotel and The Front Yard restaurant where a strip of vegetation was burning behind the parking lot near the Hollywood Freeway. A contingent of 49 firefighters stopped all forward progress of the fire in 22 minutes, keeping the burn area to less than a half acre. Crews will remain on scene to mop up the area, looking for any remaining hot spots to cool. No reported injuries. First arriving 30 LAFD Firefighters took just 19 minutes to extinguish fire involving a vacant and boarded one-story residential structure that was fully involved on their arrival. A well-coordinated offensive fire attack confined fire to that structure, preventing flames from damaging an adjacent combination one- and two-story automotive repair firm. No injury. Update Vehicle Fire with Injuries; INC#1111; 03:30PM; 9750 N Wheatland Av; https://bit.ly/4dV84f8; #ShadowHills; The earlier described "explosion" is best now defined instead as a large "fireball" that suddenly erupted from the burning vehicle shortly after LAFD arrival. There are now *five* total patients. Along with the three firefighters earlier mentioned with non-life threatening burn injuries, the fourth member of their four-person crew, who displayed no immediate injury or medical complaint, is now being taken to the same regional burn center for a baseline medical evaluation. The fifth patient, an adult male civilian associated with the burned coupe, sustained minor burns to his arm and leg, as well as singed facial hair. He will be transported by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital in fair condition. Three LAFD firefighters sustained non-life threatening burn injury from what is being tentatively described as an "explosion" while battling the blaze, and are now being transported to a regional burn center for primary medical assessment. No other injuries reported. There is no escalating or off-site hazard identified. Knockdown - Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0866; 01:02PM; 16816 W Saticoy St; https://bit.ly/4ecoDTv; #LakeBalboa; Despite oppressively hot weather (108° F), and multiple explosions within the fire building on LAFD arrival (believed related to vehicles and/or equipment typical of such premises) and structural compromise from intense flames, the 104 assigned firefighters took just 63 minutes in largely defensive firefighting operations to access, confine and fully extinguish heavy fire that consumed a 3,544 square foot one-story automotive body and paint repair facility ("New Century Auto Body & Paint"), as well as several vehicles within and adjacent to the business. No injuries were reported. The 70 year-old structure, of cinder block construction was not equipped with an optional fire sprinkler system.
