There are pockets of fire remaining that are difficult to reach due to location and structural integrity concerns of the building. While official knockdown has not yet been declared, the bulk of the fire is extinguished. This will be an extended operation and crews continue to apply master streams while working to reach the difficult spots. Resources will be on scene throughout the night. Please avoid the area. There are no injuries reported. The incident commander transition the fire ground into a defensive operation, pulling all crews out from the interior and off the roof. Firefighters are establishing master streams. The business is a 'dollar store' type with heavy fire load inside which will likely create challenges reaching all pockets of the fire. Structure Fire; INC#0289; 07:39AM; 13557 W Mineola St; https://bit.ly/2K3XOoz; Arleta; LAFD arrived to find a one-story single-family home with heavy smoke coming from the attached garage. 33 firefighters performed a well-coordinated interior fire attack with rooftop ventilation and knocked down the bulk of the flames inside the garage of the 1,192 sq-ft home in 32 minutes, keeping it from extending into the living space. Firefighters performed a thorough search of the attic and wall spaces for extension of fire, finding no additional heat spread. One elderly occupant was inside, but in an area not affected by the fire. LAFD firefighter-paramedics removed her from the home early in the incident and performed a medical assessment as a precaution. She was unaffected by the fire or smoke. No reported injuries.
