KNOCKDOWN Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#1686; 09:59PM; 10322 N Sherman Grove Av; https://bit.ly/403PXNy; #Sunland; Firefighters arrived to find a single-family home with fire showing from the attached garage (exposing the neighboring home to flames) and a 16-year-old male outside with burns and injuries who was transported immediately in serious condition. Firefighters began the incident in a defensive posture, as there were reports of propane cannisters on site. After knocking back the initial heat and flames, firefighters made entry for interior fire attack on the fire unit, while others battled flames on the neighboring structure (keeping damage to the exterior surface only). The majority of the fire damage to the home was to the attached garage and attic. Ultimately, it took 77 firefighters 43 minutes to extinguish the blaze. One other patient was transported in fair condition. It took 16 minutes to extinguish the flames (3:17am), confining the damage to the unit-of-origin. The upstairs unit was able to remain occupied after the fire, but three adults will be displaced from the ground-floor unit (fire unit), and American Red Cross was notified to support them. During fire attack, they found a lifeless adult male within the garage conversion. Beyond medical help, he was determined dead, and remains at the scene. No other injuries reported. The well coordinated efforts of LAFD crews prevented intense flames from damaging two adjacent homes. One resident with minor injury declined care. The American Red Cross will be assisting 8 of the 9 adults displaced by the fire, which heavily damaged the structure. An LAFD Flight Paramedic has been lowered from a hovering LAFD Rescue Helicopter, and is medically stabilizing the patient, preparing her to soon be hoisted into the hovering helicopter, where she will be provided in-flight care during direct transport to an area hospital.
