With winds at 25mph north to south, helicopters are arriving on scene to conduct water drops to extinguish the embers and ensure no hazard remains. Local battalion will take over. Personnel on the incident has been reduced from 115 to 40. Acreage and containment numbers remain unchanged (42 acres, 75%). Firefighters will remain on scene to ensure wind gusts do not spread embers outside of our containment lines. We would like to thank the community for their continued support during this incident. However, due to firefighters' relentless work over the past four days, the fire perimeter held and containment was increased from 55% to 75%. Due to the continued progress made, the number of firefighters has been reduced from 177 to 115. Firefighters will remain on-scene overnight patrolling to ensure wind gusts do not spread embers outside our containment lines. A more in-depth assessment shows the fire perimeter to be 42 acres, and the homes damaged to be 0, due to the damage being predominantly ornamental exterior items with no structural involvement. As we work to free up resources, demobilize the Field Incident Management Team and transition to the local battalion, tomorrow’s AM incident update will be the final Incident Update for the Palisades Fire. Santa Ana winds will continue to trigger extreme fire danger. Residents living in wildfire-prone areas are encouraged to be prepared in the event of a brush fire, remain vigilant, and familiarize themselves with the Ready-Set-Go program. Update Brush Fire #PalisadesFire; INC#0580; 09:00AM; https://www.lafd.org/news/pacific-palisades-brush-fire; internal:/; Pacific Palisades; Fortunately, the anticipated Santa Ana winds were weaker than expected overnight. Firefighters held containment lines with no spot fires escaping the perimeter, and lines were strengthened. Strong winds will continue through Friday, with low humidity and high temperatures. RED FLAG parking restrictions are in effect TODAY 10/24 for at least 24 hours and will be reevaluated based on weather conditions. Look for "Red Flag Days" signs to indicate areas that the "no parking" restrictions are in effect. Northerly wind gusts, up to 45 mph, blew embers in a southwest direction across Palisades Drive. However, firefighters prevented embers from creating spot fires and called in helicopters to make 5 water drops on smoldering debris. Last night’s infrared flight (see video at link above) showed countless hotspots throughout the 45 acre fire footprint, as can be seen in the video below. Firefighters continue to make progress during extreme fire weather conditions in preparation of tomorrow’s Santa Ana winds.Safety Message: The Los Angeles Fire Department encourages you to be prepared in the event of a brush fire. Update #PalisadesFire Brush Fire; INC#0580; 08:00PM; 800 N Palisades Dr; https://www.lafd.org/news/pacific-palisades-brush-fire; Pacific Palisades; The fire's initial location was corrected to 800 N Palisades Drive from 500 N Palisades Drive, and remains at 40 acres, with containment increased to 30%. Total personnel assigned is now approximately 295 (including all agencies), and one civilian and three responder injuries have been reported. The structures previously threatened and evacuated remains at 628, while structures with damage is reported at 8. There has been no loss of human life or structures destroyed by this blaze. Firefighters continue to work in extremely steep terrain, to ensure flareups do not move past control lines. Multiple locations flared up from smoldering debris within the burn area, however, firefighters made steady progress with continual strategic water drops to increase containment. Tactical patrols will continue to be on the lookout to quickly extinguish any hot spots throughout the night. Fire Crews are working vigorously ahead of an anticipated Red Flag Fire Weather conditions that are expected to begin Thursday morning through Friday evening. We anticipate winds to be between 10 and 25 mph, gusts up to 40 mph, with low relative humidity and increased temperatures. Update 11:00 AM #PalisadesFire Brush Fire; INC#0580; 11:00AM; 500 N Palisades Dr; https://www.lafd.org/news/pacific-palisades-brush-fire; Pacific Palisades; The fire's size was confirmed this morning as 40 acres, with 10% containment. Total personnel assigned is approximately 320 (including all agencies), and only civilian injury and one first responder injury have been reported from this incident. The total number of structures previously threatened and evacuated has been ubdated to 628, with none seriously damaged or destroyed. We are pleased to note that first responders worked tirelessly to get evacuated residents promptly back into their homes *within the same day*. Structures Destroyed: 0With intermittent wind gusts and very low humidity, firefighters will continue working through the day in very steep, cliff-like terrain to ensure flames do not move past control lines. Tactical patrols will be on the lookout for smoldering hot spots, so as to respond to any increase in fire activity. We are working vigorously ahead of an anticipated Santa Ana wind event that is expected to begin Wednesday night through Friday. The incident command post and media staging are located at Will Rogers State Beach just south of the main guard shack. The grant funded Fire Integrated Real-time Intelligence System (FIRIS) was tasked by the Incident Commander to provide perimeter mapping and heat source detection throughout the night using fixed-wing aircraft, and super computer-based fire prediction modeling. All evacuation orders were lifted at 8:00 pm on 10/21/19. We appreciate the community’s cooperation following direction from public safety personnel. We respectfully request residents drive cautiously, as emergency workers and large fire equipment moves through our communities over the next few days.
